This is a message posted to me (john) by Delores A. Sicheri regarding the petition to get CAS's under Ombudsman Jurisdiction.
It is a good petition for anyone who understands the issues. You need a reporter from some of the major news papers/TV to do a story on it. It is an easy petition to sign. You will get many signatures.
The problems I foresee are:
1. No public establishment can sponsor it for signature. CAS will force the removal by going to the company head office. They will threaten the local retailer with loss of the franchise. You will be out on the street getting signatures. You will then be told to stay far away from any business. There will be no place where you can even stand to get signatures.
2. People with economic ties to the organization will try to steal it. You cannot let it leave your custody
3. No one in the Legislative Assembly will bring it forth.
4. Even the people with direct involvement, will be afraid.
Before you embark on this, think about these 3 things because that is what happened to us in Windsor with our petition. It was a pretty innocent petition. We had 3000 signatures. At just one Petro Canada Station, we were getting over 300 signatures a day. People were coming from all over the city to sign it. Joe Comartin promised to give it to Howard Hampton to present. He told us it was presented. I went through all the petitions presented. It was never presented. It was deep- sixed.
An internet petition with ample media publicity would be the way to go. Line up your legislative supporters ahead of time. Have the media involved through the whole process. Present the petition to the Ombudsman's Office and the Premier.
Does this explain the monumental nature of the undertaking.
