Hi. I just joined yesterday. It took me forever (a couple of months) to get to this website. Google could not find www.afterfostercare.com so I went through Lycos. I was interested in hearing other foster kids stories, etc. as my child was in foster care for a year, back with me a year and now WANTS to go back again!! She has not been court ordered to go back yet but that will happen at the end of August if she does not straighten herself out. I need her to hear of the bad things that can happen from other kids. I was wondering if you knew of a place to get connected to these kids as I don't find much of it here, as I had expected. I am not very politically oriented but would like to get involved somehow to stop these 'kidnappings' and untruths. Thanks, Vaio

Hello there. I am happy to hear you have joined this board and welcome you. The best thing I can think of is to find some street youth, or a youth shelter, of any kind, even ask street kids hanging outside of the mall if they have ever been in foster care. Some will tell you to F-Off maybe, but some will be happy to help. Tell them you are trying to find out what life was like in foster care etc. Just ask them what life was like in foster care and ask them if they would be willing to have their story recorded on audio tape. Tell them they don't have to identify themselves etc... but that you want their stories to be heard by kids who think foster care is cool or might be cool. If you can't do that, then try listening to my story on the internet at my web site at web.ncf.ca/fe281/radio.html and let her hear my thirteen minute documentary which aired on CBC Radio that takes you on a virtual subway ride through my life in foster care.
